Well-bred mare Worth A Risk landed her fourth career win at Albany on Sunday when taking out the Hygain Recuperate Handicap (1500m).
Racing third-up from a spell, the Written Tycoon six-year-old started on the second line of betting at $3.20 before jumping the gates cleanly and settling in the one-out, one-back position for young gun apprentice Holly Watson.
The chestnuts were searching for clear galloping room on straightening, however, Watson was able to spear the mare through a gap inside the 200m mark and she sprinted clear to hold off the fast-finishing Schoolwork ($31) by a long neck.
Race-favourite The Great One ($2.45) finished a further one-and-a-half lengths away in third place.
The win extended Worth A Risk’s race record to 16 starts for four wins, five minor placings and $65,055 in stake earnings.
Meanwhile, the Pearce stable will have good representation at the premier race meeting of the year at Ascot this Saturday.
Dig Deep is set to line up in the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1400m) while veteran stars Vital Silver and Money Maher will launch a two-pronged attack in the $125,000 Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m).
