Zoustar mare Wise Words kicked off her campaign in the best way possible when scoring a convincing win in the Regal Engineering Handicap (1200m) at Kalgoorlie on Saturday.
Starting on the second line of betting at $5, the four-year-old jumped straight to the front from barrier one with jockey Natasha Faithfull aboard and skipped away on straightening.
Men’s Club ($2.70) chased hard but Wise Words found plenty over the final stages and pulled away to beat the race-favourite by more than two lengths, with Bin Shalaa ($11) a further half-length away in third place.
The victory was Wise Words’ first from five attempts first-up from a spell and takes her career record to 23 starts for three wins, eight minor placings and $105,586 in stake earnings and bonuses.
The Pearce stable have prepared 48 winners so far in the 2022/23 season.
