Ben Pearce saddled up When In Roan to a wet Narrogin race meeting on Saturday, May 16 in a BM 58+ handicap with the galloper to be ridden by Alan Kennedy jumping from barrier one in a field of eight.

On landing it was Barney Beau the race leader Ninu Yarada was in second on settling When In Roan was tucked in on the fence with Levi's Boy in a prominent position as the field raced past the 800m marker.

In the rain and misty conditions it was still Barney Beau the lamplighter in the congratulations Debang handicap, Levi's Boy was there but under pressure with Heeza Torio tacking on as When In Roan come through along the paint with Kennedy aboard introducing the persuader with the four-year-old gelding showing another gear and indicating a liking for the Narrogin strip coming off a win 2 starts back over 1700m.

As the field straightened for the run in, it was a battle of two with When In Roan on the fence and Barney Beau off his shoulder going stride for stride, Heeza Torio run on strongly into third position, but as they came to the wire it was the Ben Pearce prepared When In Roan, landing the chocolates ahead of the 5, Barney Beau with the 9 Heeza Torio, rounding out the trifecta.
