Monstrous gelding Super Romani made light work of a heavy impost at Northam on Sunday when taking out the The Races WA Handicap (2200m).
Carrying a full 61.5kg with jockey Brad Parnham aboard, the Super One five-year-old defied a late betting drift to $8.50 when settling one-out and one-back and then proving too strong for his rivals who had significant weight pulls on him.
Parnham extricated him into the clear on straightening and he let down with a powerful burst to hit the front at the 250m mark and then kick clear over the late stages to defeat Blue Card ($10) by just under a length.
Dark Looks ($5) finished a further neck away in third place.
Super Romani was having his 10th start of his campaign but his first over a staying journey this preparation and has now had 23 career starts for five wins, eight minor placings and $131,280 in stake earnings.
Meanwhile, stablemate Toronado Rocket ran a nice third at his second race start earlier on the Northam program.
