Watto’s Fury wins the Perth Racing Club Membership Handicap.
Three-year-old Watto’s Fury justified his odds-on favouritism with an impressive win at Belmont on Wednesday.
The So Secret gelding, backed from $2.70 to $1.85, lived up to the healthy opinion Pearce Racing have for him when contesting the Perth Racing Club Membership Handicap.
Ridden by young gun Aaron Mitchell, Watto’s Fury settled three-back on the fence before peeling to the middle of the track upon straightening and shot clear at the 200m mark.
The talented youngster spaced his rivals before Mitchell sat up on him over the concluding stages to score a soft half-length victory over the fast-finishing Special Alert ($10.10).
Urquell ($24.10) was a further three lengths away in third place.
Watto’s Fury was Pearce Racing’s first city winner for the 2017/18 racing season.
The brotherly training-duo have now prepared four winners and five second place-getters from 19 starters this season for a 21 per cent winning strike-rate.
