Metropolitan racing in Western Australia on Wednesday, September 24 was at Belmont with fine conditions supplying racing on a Dead 4 track with the Ben Pearce stable supplying one runner in the form of Vital Edition in a 1650 meter event with Peter Hall to ride jumping from barrier 10 in a field of 13.

As the gates flew back Peter Hall came out and settled worse than midfield with Vital Edition, and by the 1400m peg was bowling along at a comfortable cruising speed with Le Schiller out in front All The Fruit was in second Venetian Prince was third and Ocean Cracker had settled back on the plastic with the Ben Pearce pairing out 3-Deep around runners and waiting for an invitation as they approached the sweeping trip home.

Coming to the 400m Vital Edition had manoeuvred its way round the field and on straightening under the urgings of Paul kicked well clear in the straight and with nothing running on from the tail of the field, it was all the Pearce prepared Vital Edition, scoring by two lengths on the line to Le Schiller with a further length back to Ocean Cracker in a time for the event of 1:44.59

The 4-year-old Bay gelding looks to have returned in fine style, finishing fourth first up at Pinjarra, and displaying a liking for the Belmont 1200m distance having won two from two at the track and distance. Congratulations to Ben & Colin Pearce.
