The Ben Pearce team supplied one runner to race eight at the Belmont metropolitan meeting on Wednesday, 8 October with Vital Edition coming out for the 1700 meter event in a nought to 72 handicap with Peter Hall to ride jumping from barrier six in a field of nine.

On leaving the gates Hall had the Pearce prepared thoroughbred out worse than midfield and on settling it was Masahiko dictating terms with Savanarola in second, Zedspiel was 3rd and Young Lionel was fourth coming past the 1200m pole with Vital Edition back in the field with 1 runner behind them.

Four hundred from home Mac It Is was on the plastic out by a length Masahiko was loosing ground as Savanarola was making a claim, Zedspiel was checked and lost stride and Hall had swept wide around runners to be 5 deep at the turn allowing Vital Edition to set for a run down the middle of proceedings on straightening.

Heading for the judge it was a race in two as the back markers, Vital Edition and Young Lionel had raced down the centre to claim Mac It Is, with the duo fighting to the line, with the Pearce combination land the major end of the prize by a neck to Young Lionel with a further 1.5 lengths to Mac It Is in third.

The time for the event was 1:44.12 with the last 600m clocked at 35.5 to hand Ben & Colin Pearce back to back victories with Hall in the chair.
