Super One four-year-old Super Romani brought up his second win in a line at Bunbury’s Australia Day meeting on Friday when easily accounting for rivals in the Furphy Handicap (1690m).
Ridden by Clint Johnston-Porter at his third run back from a spell, the big gelding jumped the $3.80 second favourite and raced wide through the early stages before slotting into the one-out and one-back position and peeling out approaching the home turn.
He chimed in quickly to hit the front on straightening and careered away to defeat Snazzler ($7) by just under two lengths, with race-favourite Santa Brae ($3.20) a further head away in third place.
A stylish winner at his previous outing at Belmont on January 10, Super Romani won up to 2000m last preparation and has now had 12 career starts for three wins, five minor placings and $71,490 in stake earnings.
Meanwhile, stablemates Budgerigar and Platinum Shot finished second and fourth respectively in their races on the day.
The in-form Pearce stable will saddle up Southern Scandal, Harry The Prince, Play With Desire, Manavendra and Starring Knight at Ascot on Saturday before Sunday’s Mount Barker Sprint meeting where Hoochie Gucci, Ultimate Style and Exceltrain are engaged.
