Ben and Daniel Pearce will start two three-year-olds at today’s Northam meeting.
Patronize gelding Superior Smile will race first-up in the WWW.NORTHAMRACECLUB.COM Maiden, the first event on the nine-race card.
An imposing figure, Superior Smile ran two-and-a-quarter lengths fourth on debut last preparation before having to be spelled when pulling up shinsore following the run.
Jarrad Noske is set to take the mount on the three-year-old who produced an eye-catching trial effort at Lark Hill on August 7 when posted three-wide without cover throughout and still working through the line strongly to be beaten just one-and-a-half lengths at the finish.
Race-experienced Demerit gelding Arrum Boy has the strongest form lines in the race and debutant Showcase has also trialled impressively, however, Pearce Racing have a good opinion of Superior Smile and the gelding looks to have solid each-way claims on return.
The following race will see the Pearce-trained Street Boss filly Caress Your Soul tackle the Gannons Race Colours Maiden.
To be ridden by apprentice Randy Tan, Caress Your Soul ran a solid third placing to subsequent three-time city winner Cognac at the track on June 5.
The filly last raced when leading the field at Belmont before fading to finish fifth behind progressive type Perfect Jewel over 1200m, however, looks to be ideally suited dropping back to 1000m and carrying just 53.5kg under the set weights conditions today.
She appears to be the likely leader of the race and should prove hard to beat.
Pearce Racing will have five runners across Saturday’s Belmont and Broome meetings.
