Fiorente five-year-old Fear The Wind brought up back-to-back city victories at the final Ascot meeting of the season on Saturday when taking out the City Of Belmont Trophy (2200m).
Backed from $2.80 into $2.05 favouritism, the gelding settled one-out and one-back for champion hoop William Pike in stark contrast to his previous start where he stormed home from the tail of his field.
The big bay engaged in a two-horse war with Ciscojoe ($8.50) over the final furlong but Pike lifted him across the line to score by a head.
Blackwater Bay ($5) finished a further one-and-a-half lengths away in third place.
The win was Fear The Wind’s third of his campaign so far and takes his career record to 18 starts for four wins, three minor placings and $137,628 in total earnings.
The Pearce stable have Laughing Buddha, Charcoal Chaos, Wise Words, Celebrity Witness and Anna’s Boy engaged at Sunday’s Kalgoorlie meeting.
