Settling in a forward manner Pike adjusted to suit the speed, just sitting off the early race leaders until straightening for home when the champion Perth hoop engaged the gears of Thunder Boom to race off and score the prize in the last on the card, easing up on the line with a length and three-quarter victory for the beautifully prepared runner, in advance of Fremond with Russian River in third, followed next by Musical Art.
