Star two-year-old Talkanco delivered Pearce Racings its second $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Coming off a win in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) a fortnight earlier, the I’m All The Talk filly started on the second line of betting at $3.50 and was able to land the lucrative double to stamp her claim as the best juvenile of the season.
Ridden by Brad Parnham, Talkanco enjoyed a gun run one-out and two-back following race-favourite Yes Queen ($2.30) after jumping from barrier four and was able to cut the corner on straightening and finish brilliantly to defeat Just Too Fly ($18) by just under a length.
Snitzalatte ($9.50) ran third with Yes Queen a further ahead away in fourth place, whilst fellow Peace-trained filly Perfectly Proper ($31) produced a terrific performance to charge home from wide draw into fifth.
Bred and part-owned by Woodbridge Thoroughbred’s Ian Riley, Talkanco has always flashed top level ability since scoring an impressive win at her race debut on November 9 last year.
The filly has now had five career starts for three wins, two minor placings and $507,640 in total earnings.
Her victory in the time-honoured Karrakatta Plate is co-trainer Daniel and Ben Pearce’s second win in the major feature race after Dig Deep’s success in the 2019 edition.
Pearce Racing has 54 winners in the 2024/25 season to date.
