Super One three-year-old Super Romani justified his short-priced favouritism at Pinjarra on Thursday when landing his first win in the Electrical Consultancy WA Maiden (2000m).

Backed into prohibitively short odds of $1.30, the big gelding was race off a five-day turnaround after finishing fourth in the Listed Aquanita Stakes as a $51 outsider at Belmont on Saturday.

He was settled five-back on the rail by champion jockey William Pike and after initially getting held up for clear running on straightening, he was able to extricate into the open and finished powerfully to defeat Flash Paddy ($13) by just under a length.

Prophet And Power ($13) finished a further three-and-three-quarter lengths away in third place.

Purchased by Colin Pearce as a weanling for $6,000 on an online sale in 2020, Super Romani has now had eight career starts for a win and four second placings.

The Pearce stable have Queen Alina, Outspoken Lad and Let’s Galahvant engaged at Belmont on Saturday before saddling-up Bird’s The Word, Exalted Rockstar and Galaxian Girl at Sunday’s Kalgoorlie meeting.
