Pierro filly A Summer Fling returned in style at Belmont Park on Wednesday when scoring a convincing first up win in the Steve Mills Handicap (1200m).
Ridden by Chris Parnham who booted home a winning treble on the day, the three-year-old jumped the $2.15 favourite and jumped from barrier five before positioning up outside the leader.
She travelled well into the straight and was able to race past the leader passing the 250m mark before finding another gear in the final furlong to hold off Spirited Strike ($14) by one-and-a-half lengths.
Where’s Brittany ($18) finished a further length away in third place.
Purchased by Pearce Racing for $100,000 at the 2024 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale, A Summer Fling has now had four career starts for two wins and two minor placings.
Co-trainers Daniel and Ben Pearce feel she’s a filly with upside and now plan to progress her through to the $125,000 Listed Raconteur Stakes (1400m) at Belmont Park on Saturday June 6.
Meanwhile, stablemates Under Influence and White Hot each ran narrow minor placings in their respective races on Wednesday.
The Pearce stable will be represented by Friar’s Legacy, Graceful Lass and God’s Grin at Pinjarra on Thursday before Saturday’s Belmont meeting where Rainline is the early favourite for the featured $100,000 Racing WA Provincial Series Final (1400m).
Madame Magic, Decoration and Madame Magic will also line up in support races on the nine-event card.
