Lark Hill trainer Ben Pearce is hoping his return to Kalgoorlie on Sunday is more productive than his previous trip in 2010.

Pearce arrived with a team of three horses, spearheaded by Lie In Wait who tackled the Coolgardie Cup (1600m).

The bay gelding was rated a top chance and entered the feature in top form but could only manage a seventh to Inarticulate.

Stable mates Yabigorse and Tropical Fury fared little better and were unplaced in their three respective races.

After four years Pearce is back, this time with Raising Dubai, who will contest the Goldfields Tatts Cup (2300m).

Pearce opted for Kalgoorlie over Belmont Park on Saturday and a showdown with the inform Ram Jam, who is chasing his fifth straight win.

Raising Dubai ran third to Ram Jam, beaten 2 ¾ lengths, when they clashed last fortnight, his third placing in four starts this campaign.

But with a 4kg weight drop, barrier one and the services of jockey Ben Paterson, Raising Dubai can break the shackles for the first time this campaign.

“He has drawn well and it’s not an overly strong field,” said Pearce.

“It was the easier option and I don’t think he would have beaten Ram Jam.

“I’ve been happy with his form behind good horses including Gladstone.

“He’s only had the one poor effort and he usually does that third run in a campaign.

“The main thing is how he will adjust to the track.

“If he can handle the going I’m hopeful of a positive result.”

Pearce concedes Beinn Nibheis has been disappointing in his two returns runs but believes the son of Danehill Express warrants another chance from punters.

The five-year-old, unplaced behind Deb’s Delight and Supposition over 1000m at Belmont, jumps from gate three in the Kalgoorlie Auto Electrics In/Spec Lineboring Handicap (1000m).

“He has promised but hasn’t really delivered,” said Pearce.

“But to be honest he hasn’t had much luck.

“He has drawn wide and last time out he got chopped out when looking for a run.

“If he can put it together and race to his capability he can play a part.”
