Poets Tale is a three-year-old gelding having start number seven, having raced recently at Narrogin on February 20 finishing fourth of 12 over 1720 with Peter Hall aboard landing 2.75 lengths behind the winner, and was last seen at Ascot on March 4 finishing midfield fifth of 10 over 1600 m with Peter Hall the pilot landing 1.75 lengths behind the winner in a race time of 1:40.20 with the last 600m in 36.81 on a good three.
