The team at Ben Pearce racing prepared maiden runner Poet's Tale race 4 on the Bunbury race card on Thursday, November 12 to run over 1690m, racing on a good 3 with Peter Hall the pilot jumping from barrier seven with a field of 14 to compete.
As the runners sprung into stride, the race leader was Quick Black, Red Glow was off its hip in second with One Demerit travelling third Chupacabra was in fourth round the back with Poet's Tale out deep on track situated in sixth position settling into the member number 342 Mark George maiden plate.
Passing the 800m Red Glow was the leader, as Hall pushed up his mount to to take closer stock and get in from the deep after travelling in that fashion for the majority of the 800m without cover, Quick Black in the Fremantle Docker colours was in third with One Demerit on it's outer the next in line.
Coming to the turn Red Glow was being challenged by Poet's Tale, One Demerit was cruising up with Mr Sa So entering the fray, as the rest of the field appeared to be off the bit as they straightened for home.
Into the straight Red Glow and Poet's Tale booted well clear, with the field spread wide across the track, the fresh horse on the scene Blackvice was putting in the big ones, eventually gobbling up the leading pair and on hitting the line, nudged out Red Glow for the prize by a head on the line with Poet's Tale finishing third, a length and a half away from the main competitors.
