Pearce Racing’s hot form continued into Good Friday when Deep Envy and Anna’s Boy were successful in their respective races at Ascot and Kalgoorlie.

Deep Field filly Deep Envy got the ball rolling when bringing up her second win from three starts this preparation when taking out the Furphy Handicap (1100m) at Ascot.

Starting on the second line of betting at $2.70 with William Pike aboard, the filly settled outside the leader before hitting the front on straightening and lifting over the final stages to hold off the fast-finishing Zangief ($41) by a nose.

Race-favourite Givemeonereason ($2.05) finished a further three-quarter-length away in third place.

After persistent knee troubles curtailed Deep Envy’s debut race campaign last year, the flashy chestnut benefited from an extended spell and has now raced three times this campaign for two wins and a third placing to progressive type Rusty Dreams.

Stablemate Anna’s Boy ($2.50) was able to end the day on an even better note when victorious in the final race on the Kalgoorlie program, the Goldfields Garage Doors Handicap (1300m).

Ridden by Natasha Faithfull, the Sessions four-year-old was able to go one better than his runner-up finish the start prior when chasing tearaway leader Town Hall ($9.50) throughout running and finishing off powerfully to hit the line deadlocked.

The Oakland Park-bred gelding got the tight photo finish verdict by a nose, with Nicklaus ($21) a further three-quarter length away in third place.

Anna’s Boy has now had 13 career starts for two wins and seven minor placings.

Foreman Charlotte Skerritt is in charge of Pearce Racing’s satellite stable in Kalgoorlie and is doing a wonderful job with the team.

The Pearce yard have last-start winner Cosmopolitan Girl and stablemate Starring Knight – a winner at his last three outings – engaged at Saturday’s Ascot meeting.
