Ben and Daniel Pearce will saddle-up three capable runners at today’s Belmont meeting.
The brotherly duo, who currently lead the WA trainer’s premiership with 11 winners so far this season, will launch a two-pronged attack in the Yellowglen Handicap (1000m).
The class one event will see Blackfriars gelding Father Knick and Street Boss filly Caress Your Soul, both three-year-olds, take on older opposition.
Impressive last-start winner Father Knick led from go to whoa when resuming from a spell in a Northam maiden on August 31, however, he may have to adopt a change of tactics with a great deal of exposed speed engaged in today’s race.
Just A Fluke, Round The Point and Pashima are noted on-pace runners and have all drawn inside Father Knick so hoop Joseph Azzopardi, who retains the mount, may elect to take a sit in running.
The Pearce stable still remain confident Father Knick should prove hard to beat.
Stablemate Caress Your Soul, who showed a blistering turn-of-foot when winning a Northam maiden two starts back, performed only fairly after overracing when sixth to Epic Grey at Saturday level on September 2.
She appears to be suited by a drop in grade as well as an expected strong tempo and will carry just 53kg after apprentice Randy Tan’s claim.
Meanwhile, new stable acquisition Defiancy will have his second start for the stable in the TABTouch Masters 25 Nov – 2 Dec – 9 Dec Handicap (1650m) in the final event on the eight-race card.
The Wanted six-year-old trialled well on two occasions before a promising third placing to Ace’s Wish at Northam on August 31.
He has never finished outside of the first three in four previous races over the mile distance and looks to be well-placed jumping from barrier four in the 11-horse field.
Peter Hall will partner the gelding and the pair look to have strong each-way claims.
Pearce Racing are set to take a team of six runners to tomorrow’s Northam meeting.
