Pearce Racing landed a stable double and a third placing from three runners at Geraldton on Thursday when Charcoal Chaos and Sofia’s Symphony each won their respective races.

Charcoal Chaos, a Gingerbread Man four-year-old, scored her first career victory when getting the verdict in a tight photo finish in the Great Western Insurance Brokers Maiden (1200m).

Ridden by Joseph Azzopardi, the grey mare enjoyed the run of the race in the box seat before taking a gap between runners on straightening and finishing strongly to defeat Holy Spy ($5) by a nose.

Race-favourite Exchange Rate ($2.70) finished a further length away in third place.

Charcoal Chaos put the writing on the wall for her winning performance when finishing a close second at York at her previous start and has now had seven career starts for a win and two minor placings.

Later in the day three-year-old filly Sofia’s Symphony ($3) scored the second win of her campaign when rocketing home from towards the tail of her nine-horse field to take out the Midwest Fire & Safety Supplies Handicap (1100m) in thrilling style.

Also ridden by Azzopardi, the daughter of Smart Missile clocked a slick 33:55 for her last 600m to run over the top of Mystery Man ($4) and score by a long neck.

Yes Miss Jane ($5) finished a further long-neck away in third place.

Sofia’s Symphony has now raced seven times for two wins, one minor placing, five top-four finishes and $49,000 in total earnings.

The Pearce brothers’ only other runner on the day, Anna’s Boy, finished third.

Meanwhile, the in-form stable remain at the top of the state leaderboard and will be represented by Queen Alina, Chiclett and Galaxy Affair at Saturday’s Ascot meeting before saddling up Cosmopolitan Girl, Manavendra, Bold Street and Dig Deep at Northam on Sunday.
