Durable three-year-old Bird’s The Word scored the fourth win of his campaign at York on Thursday when getting the verdict in a driving finish to the TABtouch You’ve Got The Touch Handicap (1200m).
Starting on the second line of betting at $3.20, the Galah gelding was having his 10th run in a lengthy preparation which commenced with a first-up win on July 21.
He was settled in the box seat in running by apprentice Taj Dyson before muscling his way into the clear on straightening and finishing over the top of the frontrunners to defeat Captain Sharmane ($5) by a nose.
Dark City ($7) finished a further neck away in third place.
Purchased for only $12,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale, Bird’s The Word has now had 13 career starts for four wins, two minor placings and $98,155 in stake earnings and Westspeed Platinum bonuses.
The Pearce stable will saddle up Let’s Galahvant, Acromantula, Dig Deep, Probity, Chiclett and Platinum Shot at Saturday’s Railway Stakes meeting at Ascot.
