Fiorente five-year-old Fear The Wind produced an impressive last-to-first victory at Ascot on Saturday when unleashing a devastating turn of foot in the Glenroy Chaff Handicap (2200m).
Ridden by William Pike, the gelding was backed into $3.80 favouritism and jumped from barrier 10 before settling stone motherless in an 11-horse field until Pike managed to weave his way through the pack and race past their rivals passing the 100m mark to score by just under two-and-a-half lengths.
Cruisey Roy ($5.50) finished in second place, with Duchees Demerit ($9) a further nose away in third place.
The performance came at only Fear The Wind’s second start over a staying journey in more than two years and takes his career record to 17 outings for three wins, three minor placings and $93,788 in stake earnings.
The big bay has had seven starts this campaign for two wins and two minor placings.
The 2022/23 season is now officially Pearce Racing’s most successful in its six-year history, having prepared 61 winners with more than three months still remaining until the season concludes.
Anzac Day promises to be a big day for the stable with eight runners scheduled to race across the Ascot and Kalgoorlie meetings.
