Shamus Award four-year-old Famous Dain scored a last-to-first win at Pinjarra on Thursday when finishing brilliantly in the Hygain Tracktorque Handicap (1400m).

Starting on the second line of betting at $4.20 with William Pike aboard, the gelding wasn’t able to utilise his good draw in barrier three after slipping at the jump and subsequently finding himself at the rear of his 12-horse field.

He was still a clear last at the 300m mark but exploded down the centre of the track to reel in his rivals passing the 50m mark and winning by a half length on the line.

Amazing Cheat ($21) finished second, with race-leader Universal Hotness ($7) a further neck away in third place.

Famous Dain was having his second start back from a spell and put the writing on the wall for his victory with a first-up third placing at Ascot on March 26.

The consistent Oakland Park-bred gelding has now had 13 career starts for two wins, six minor placings and $60,085 in total earnings and the Pearce stable hope to get him out to a staying distance in the near future.

Pearce Racing has prepared five individual winners from eight runners over the past five days and has a five-horse team comprising of Sinful Living, Pull The Trigger, Soso Lucky, Blue Rocket and Madame Magic engaged to race at Ascot on Saturday.
