Dundeel stayer Dun With The Blues caused a mini upset at Ascot on Saturday when winning the Quayclean Handicap (1500m) first up from a spell.
Resuming off the back of two Lark Hill trials, the five-year-old jumped an $11 chance with jockey Chris Parnham aboard and was having only her second race start in 10 months.
Parnham settled the mare leaders-back in running from barrier one before taking a gap between horses to work into the clear on straightening and get the better of the leader, Amjaad ($3), over the final stages to win by a short neck.
Miss Skyhigh ($11) finished a further length away in third place.
Bred and raced by Oakland Park Stud, Dun With The Blues has won up to 2200m previously and has now had 15 career starts for four wins, nine minor placings and $144,309 in stake earnings.
The Pearce stable will saddle up Wineaclocksumwhere and Written Sin at Sunday’s Narrogin meeting.
