Durable mare Platinum Shot was rewarded with her first metropolitan-level win at Pinjarra on Saturday when taking out the $80,000 Gannon’s Racing Colours Handicap (1400m).

The Shooting To Win five-year-old started the $3 second favourite with rising star apprentice Holly Nottle aboard and took full advantage of her 52.5kg light weight when making every post a winner.

Nottle fired her straight to the front from barrier one and she led throughout to defeat race-favourite Antique Star ($2.15) by more than a length on the line, with Camera Action ($7) more than three lengths further back in third place.

The Yarradle Stud-bred Platinum Shot was purchased by Pearce Racing for $55,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has been a brilliant money spinner for connections, with her 33 career starts to date returning seven wins, 14 minor placings and $273,249 in total earnings.

The bay obtained valuable black type as a two-year-old filly in March 2023 when finishing second in the Listed Supremacy Stakes and raced at eight tracks throughout a highly consistent career so it was great to see her rewarded with a well-deserved first Saturday triumph.

Meanwhile, Pearce Racing stablemates Defending and Decoration also produced narrow runner-up finishes at the annual Magic Millions day meeting at Pinjarra on Saturday.

The 2026 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale will be held at the Magic Millions Sales Complex in the Swan Valley on Thursday and Friday.
