Deep Field three-year-old Deep Envy caused a minor boilover at Pinjarra on Wednesday when rolling the $1.50 favourite in the A1 Locksmiths Maiden (1000m).

Starting on the second line of betting at $6.50, the filly was having her first race start in more than six months and improved sharply on her two ninth-placed efforts last preparation.

Champion jockey William Pike settled the flashy chestnut just off the leaders down the straight course before bursting through the middle and claiming Frantic War ($1.50) by a neck.

Super Snippy ($21) finished a further length-and-a-quarter away in third place.

Soundness issues have delayed the start of Deep Envy’s career, however, the filly has plenty of natural ability and will hopefully be able to go on with it now.

Meanwhile, Pearce Racing’s other runner for the day – Manhattan Strip ($4.20) – ran a fast-finishing second first-up over 1200m and looks set for a promising campaign.

The Pearce stable have Rubick Delight, Dancin’ Devil and Beautiful Baroque engaged at Saturday’s Bunbury Cup meeting at Ascot.
