Epaulette gelding Decoration kept his undefeated record at Kalgoorlie in tact after taking out Sunday’s $30,000 Goldfields Tattersalls Cup (1616m).
Starting the $2.40 favourite, the five-year-old jumped from barrier one with Tash Faithfull aboard and was crossed by race-leader It’s A Lance ($4.80) through the early stages before popping off the rail to sit outside him in running.
The pair kicked away on straightening and went head-and-head over the final furlong but Decoration got the upper hand over the late stages to score by a neck, with Ryewood ($13) a further length away in third place.
Decoration has now won three races from as many starts at Kalgoorlie after saluting at his second-last start on July 27 and also on Kalgoorlie Cup day last year.
The Oakland Park-bred gelding has now had 24 career starts for five wins, nine minor placings, $192,415 in total earnings and is a chance of joining stablemate Ginger Baker in the $100,000 Coolgardie Cup (1760m) at Kalgoorlie on Sunday September 7.
Ginger Baker ran third first-up in Saturday’s $125,000 Listed Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m) at Belmont.
