The feature event on the Bunbury card was in race eight in the Bunbury Stakes over 1400 m of listed quality with prize-money on offer of $120,000 for the event with the Ben Pearce yard saddling up Danablue dwith Jarrad Noske the pilot jumping from barrier five in a field of 10.
After a reasonable dispatch the field split into 2 groups with Dawn Approach the race leader Rusty Peaches was off its back Antique belle was third with Noske settling Danablue into a nice rhythm in fourth with the fancied runner Black Heart Bart chasing 3 in a row, and on passing the 600m the field was spread out some nine lengths coming around the side.
As they headed into the turn it was still Dawn Approach,Rusty Peaches, Antique Belle and Danablue all still front runners as Black Heart Bart made a move circumnavigating the field to be the widest runner on straightening.
Into the straight Dawn Approach lead but not for long as the race favourite Black Heart Bart come down the centre of the track as Danablue fought on doggedly from their position with Dawn Approach and amAntique Belle fighting out the minors, but as they greeted the judge it was Black Heart Bart taking out the listed event by 5.25 lengths back to Danablue at $21, landing three quarters of a length in front of Dawn Approach with Antique Belle just falling short of a podium finish.
Ben was happy with Danablue's fighting effort, adding the winner is well respected, as Danablue's connections added some more prize money to the already healthy earnings that now sit in excess of $200,000.
