Lightly-raced five-year-old Dais scored the second win of her career at Belmont on Wednesday when justifying her short-priced favouritism in the TABtouch – Better Your Bet Handicap (1200m).
Backed from $2.60 into $1.75, the Sessions mare jumped from barrier three before settling one-out and one-back for apprentice jockey Taj Dyson and travelled strongly throughout running to look the winner turning for home.
Sessions’ stock are renowned for being effective on wet tracks and Dais certainly fits that bill, letting down strongly on the heavy8-rated surface to win by just over a length on the line.
English Heritage ($12) hit the line well from the tail of the seven-horse field to finish second, with race leader All Metal ($21) a further half-length away in third place.
A slow maturer who went shinsore several times early in her career, Dais has now had nine race starts for two wins, five minor placings and earnings of $55,500.
The Pearce yard have enjoyed a nice start to the 2022/23 season with its 23 runners netting five winners 14 top-three finishes.
Queen Alina and Risky Lyrics will fly the flag for the stable at Pinjarra on Thursday before Saturday’s Belmont meeting where Bird’s The Word, Don’t Fuss, Let’s Galahvant and Dig Deep are engaged.
