Stablemates Decoration and Influencing produced a fruitful day for Pearce Racing at Kalgoorlie on Saturday when bringing up a winning double.
Co-trainers Daniel and Ben Pearce saddled up seven runners at the annual Kalgoorlie Cup meeting for two winners and three minor placegetters, with their other two runners finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Decoration kicked off the day in style when leading throughout in the $60,000 Kalgoorlie Paint Centre Handicap (1760m) to land his first victory for Saturday metropolitan stake money.
The Epaulette four-year-old started on the second line of betting at $3.40 and made every post a winner under Chris Parnham after fending off race-favourite Don’t Wait For Luck ($2.40) over the late stages to win by a long neck.
The Oakland Park-bred gelding has enjoyed a breakout campaign with his five starts this time in netting two wins, two seconds and a third, taking his career record to 14 starts for three wins, seven minor placings and $125,903 in total earnings.
Later in the day Influencing ($4.60) scored his first win of his preparation when demolishing rivals in the $80,000 Coastal Midwest Handicap (1400m).
Ridden by Tash Faithfull, the Oratorio four-year-old settled leaders-back through the early stages of the race before moving up outside the leader and then racing away from his opposition in the straight to win by almost three-and-a-half lengths.
Staralign ($7) finished second, with Colossal ($5) a further half-length away in third place.
The all-ladies-owned Influencing has now had 12 career starts for five wins, a second and $266,921 in total earnings.
The Pearce stable will saddle up Royal Trooper and Karsavina at Sunday’s Northam meeting.
