The Ben Pearce racing yard saddled up three-year-old Cheap Express to race one on the Ascot card in a maiden event over 1200 m racing on a good (4) with Paul Harvey the pilot jumping from barrier eight with a field of 14 to compete.

As the thoroughbreds landed near the Riverside scenery the race was on in earnest, in the Sell Lease property maiden with race elect, Corvara, hitting the ground in earnest, Chief Denman was in second with Play for Real at big odds was in third, one of well supported runners was next, with Detente, in fourth, back in the field was Cheap Express which was bowling along with only two runners behind its rump as the field settled into stride, assuming that Harvey was patiently riding his charge for a crack at the cutaway in the straight.

Coming to the side upon entering the straight Corvara had skipped away by a couple of lengths to Chief Denman who was running a cheeky race with Detente out after the race leader, glancing back from the rear division of the event, Cheap Express was winding up along the rail and although the race leader had the event in the bag, it was Detente falling in second with a positive display put in by the third runner, Cheap Express on this occasion.
