Star Witness three-year-old Celebrity Witness scored the first win of her career at Northam on Wednesday when justifying her short-priced favouritism in the TABtouch Race Replays Maiden (1600m).
The progressive filly headed the market at $2 off the back of three promising performances when finishing fourth, third and second respectively and was able to go one better when defeating second-favourite Special View ($2.50) by a half-length.
Ridden by stable jockey Joseph Azzopardi, Celebrity Witness sat outside of a dawdling tempo before hitting the front on straightening and doing enough over the late stages to hold her main rival on the line.
Race leader Rag ‘N’ Boneman ($10) finished a length-and-three-quarters away in third place.
Purchased for $25,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic yearling sale in Sydney, Celebrity Witness has flashed above-average talent at each of her public outings and appears to have a bright future.
Meanwhile, stablemate Life For A Life went within a neck of landing a Pearce Racing double at Northam when the fellow three-year-old finished second to Excerpt in the TABtouch Better Your Betting Experience Maiden (1100m).
The stable are set to saddle-up classy sprinter Cliffs Of Comfort and two-year-old debutant Send It Son at the opening Ascot meeting of the season this Saturday.
