Lucky Street three-year-old Bold Street made a top start to her racing career at York on Thursday when scoring an upset win in the York Racing Inc Volunteer Maiden Handicap (1200m).

Starting a $20 outsider at her first race start, the filly came from a seemingly-impossible position when spotting the leaders a considerable margin on straightening but was able to unleash a brilliant finish down the outside of the track underneath jockey Joseph Azzopardi.

The pair claimed So In Love ($21) by a nose on the line, with Quillow ($3.60) a further length away in third place.

Purchased for $20,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions sale, Bold Street had five barrier trials across three preparations and her race debut had been delayed due to respiratory issues but the filly rewarded her connections with a first-up victory.

Meanwhile, the Pearce stable will saddle-up Anna’s Boy, Queen Alina, Defending, Fiorucci Mama, Cosmopolitan Girl and Dig Deep at the first Ascot meeting of the new season on Saturday.

Pearce Racing currently sit nine wins clear at the top of the state’s trainer premiership.
