Leading Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic contender Chanzig will wear blinkers for the first time in his return at Ascot on Saturday.
Chanzig shot to the top of the MM Classic order of entry after an impressive win on debut in November and a second to Diamond Tonique last month.
Diamond Tonique and Fremond, who won the first two-year-old race of the season at Belmont Park in October, share second place.
Trainer Ben Pearce gave Chanzig a three-week break after his last run. The son of popular first-season sire War Chant will use Saturday's Westspeed Plate (1000m) as a springboard to the $250,000 MM Classic (1100m) on February 14.
"Hopefully the blinkers will sharpen him up," Pearce said.
"He came back from the break looking magnificent and he hasn't lost much fitness.
"He's the only two-year-old I've got in at the moment and he's been working as good, if not better, than most of my older horses.
"He's a nice horse. With a bit of luck he'll be right among them."
Pearce is hoping to go one better in the feature after Vampi Lass ran a close second to Camporella in 2013.
The young Karnup trainer struck a deal with leading breeder Graham Daws after Chanzig was passed in at last year's Perth yearling sale.
"All the War Chants were selling for big money, but he was passed in with a $40,000 reserve," Pearce said.
"I said to Graham: 'You keep half and I'll get some stable clients to take the other half'."
Daws, who runs Dawson Stud, has a full sister to Chanzig set to go under the hammer at next month's yearling sale.
