Daniel and Ben Pearce saddled up two winners from two starters at Belmont on Sunday when Fiorucci Mama and Queen Alina took out their respective races in style.
Rommel three-year-old Fiorucci Mama ($2.60) scored her first win of her campaign when producing a dominant three-length victory in the Morley Growers Market Handicap (1200m).
Ridden by apprentice Luke Campbell, the filly was unable to find the lead and had to face the breeze throughout running but hit the front on straightening and ran away from her rivals in convincing fashion.
Red Cadillac ($20) finished in second place, with I’m All Miss ($6.50) a further length away in third.
Fiorucci Mama has now had 10 career starts for two wins and four second placings, including a runner-up finish to Amelia’s Jewel in last season’s Listed Supremacy Stakes, and has accumulated $190,782 in prizemoney and bonuses.
Two races later in-form mare Queen Alina ($2.90) resumed from a freshen-up to land her third win from her past four starts in the Byron Bay Premium Lager Handicap (1650m).
Despite having not raced for 43 days, the Mahuta four-year-old showed a strong turn-of-foot with Chris Parnham aboard to beat Dad’s Bigheaded ($20) by a length-and-three-quarters.
Rare Encounter ($4.40) finished a further length away in third place.
The lightly-raced Queen Alina has now raced six times for three wins, two seconds and $89,315 in prizemoney and bonuses and looks like a Saturday-class type in the making.
The Pearce stable remain three wins clear at the top of the state leaderboard for the 2022/23 season and will be represented by last-start winner Bird’s The Word at this Wednesday’s Belmont meeting.
