Exciting four-year-old Triple Jay landed his sixth career win at Belmont on Saturday when taking out the Mrs Mac’s Handicap (1400m).

A winner at his previous start 21 days prior, the Street Boss gelding jumped a $4.80 chance when stepping to 1400m for only the second time in his career but ran the seven furlongs out strongly after settling outside the leader for jockey Brad Parnham.

He raced past Allez Allez ($4.40) passing the 200m mark and got the better of him over the final stages to score by just under a half-length, with race-favourite Yonga Lass ($2.50) a further one-and-a-half lengths away in third place.

Triple Jay was having the sixth start of a breakout campaign and has now raced 15 times for six wins, five minor placings and $255,832 in total earnings.

The $100,000 Jockey Celebration Day Stakes (1400m) at Belmont on August 3 is now the progressive Oakland Park-bred galloper’s likely next assignment.

Meanwhile, stablemate Bird’s The Word ($11) almost caused another upset in the final event of the day when finishing a close second in the Budget Mini Bus Handicap (1200m).

The Pearce stable has prepared 77 winners for the 2023/24 season with less than three weeks remaining and have Harry The Prince, Zing To Win and Hot Nova engaged at Sunday’s Kalgoorlie meeting.
