Deep Field gelding Deepest Desire continued his perfect preparation when taking out the Prince of Wales Hotel Bunbury Handicap (1000m) at Bunbury on Thursday.

Despite having his second start of his campaign off the back of a Lark Hill trial win on June 15 and then a first up victory at Belmont on July 1, the three-year-old was an alarming drifter from $5 to $8 late in betting.

The lack of market confidence didn’t impact his performance as apprentice Zephen Johston-Porter was able to position him outside the leader in running and he hit the front passing the 200m mark before kicking clear to defeat race-favourite Dark Avalanche ($2.80) by a length.

Snip Of Romance ($3) finished a further head away in third place.

Bred and part-owned by Amelia Park Farm, the lightly-raced Deepest Desire was purchased by Pearce Racing for $130,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has now had four career starts for two wins and a third.

The talented bay was Pearce Racing’s only runner at Bunbury on Wednesday but the yard will be represented by Eightyseven Lad and Eternal Romance at Pinjarra on Thursday before Saturday’s Belmont meeting where stablemates Art Session, Queen Of Hawks and Spinarella are engaged.
