Pearce Racing and jockey Tash Faithfull celebrated a near-perfect day in partnership at Kalgoorlie on Sunday when combining for four winners and a narrow second from five runners.
The day kicked off on a good note with Eightyseven Lad breaking through for his first win when taking out the Encore Monitoring Maiden (1100m).
Starting a hot $1.75 favourite off the back of consecutive second placings at Bunbury and Pinjarra to kick off his preparation, the Long Leaf three-year-old settled outside the leader before hitting the front on straightening and hanging on narrowly in a tight three-way go.
The photo finish determined he’d defeated Cobar Sky ($101) by a nose, with Our Enchantress ($9) a further nose away in third place.
Eightyseven Lad has now had seven career starts for a win, three second placings and $37,435 in total earnings.
The next race saw the combination taste their only defeat together for the day when God’s Grin ($2.05) finished a neck second to Ideally in the Hydramech Handicap (1760m), however, stablemate Queen Of Hawks later got them back on the board in the NJ Industries Handicap (1100m).
The Sessions four-year-old jumped an $8.50 chance and was slotted into the one-out and one-back position from barrier seven by Faithfull before peeling out on straightening and collaring Science Degree ($6.50) over the final stages to win by a short neck.
Vomo Island ($8.50) finished a further length away in third place.
Bred and raced by Oakland Park Stud, the consistent Queen Of Hawks has now had 13 career starts for five wins, two minor placings and $120,305 in total earnings.
The penultimate event of the day saw Alebrije ($9.50) take out the Terra Drilling Handicap (1200m) in yet another driving finish and after another perfectly-executed Faithfull ride.
The Bivouac three-year-old jumped from barrier six and landed one-out and one-back before responding to Faithfull’s urgings in the shadow of the post to hit the front just in time to defeat Couldabeenahandbag ($20) by a head.
Viresha ($19) finished a further nose away in third place.
The lightly-raced Alebrije has now had six career starts for two wins, a third and $31,124 in total earnings.
The final race of the day was the easiest watch for stable followers with Friar’s Fantasia careering away to a dominant win in The Animal Hospital Handicap (1400m).
The Written By three-year-old started the $2.80 favourite and was again positioned one-out and one-back by a red-hot Faithfull before hooking out turning for home and quickly storming to the front en route to a one-and-three-quarter length victory.
Gondrinkin ($8) ran second, with Across Generations ($10) a further one-and-a-quarter lengths away in third place.
Bred and part-owned by Pearce Racing and long-time stable client Trevor McKee, Friar’s Legacy is the first foal out of their former race mare Friar’s Fantasia and has now had 14 career starts for two wins, nine minor placings and $98,367 in total earnings.
With only four days remaining in the 2025/26 season, Pearce Racing now sit fourth in WA’s overall trainers’ leaderboard with 63 winners.
