Blue blood three-year-old Triple Jay justified his short-priced favouritism at his first run back from a spell at Pinjarra on Thursday when taking out the Stable Affairs Maiden (1200m).
Backed into $1.85 at the jump, the Street Boss gelding resumed off the back of an impressive trial win and didn’t let punters down when rolling forward to settle outsider of the leader for jockey William Pike before hitting the front passing the 200m mark and kicking away.
He tired over the final stages but was still able to defeat Uncle Gerard ($7) by three-quarters of a length, with a further length back to Busters Free ($11) in third place.
The Oakland Park-bred Triple Jay is out of the well-related Jestajingle and is the half-brother to former $725,000 yearling Bruckner who was a Group 3 winner before finishing second to Home Affairs in the 2021 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and has since been retired to stud.
Thursday’s victory was only Triple Jay’s second race start and Daniel and Ben Pearce feel he has a bright future ahead.
The win was Pearce Racing’s 22nd individual three-year-old winner of the 2022/23 season so far, with 37 of its 66 wins this season coming from three-year-olds.
The stable has Cosmopolitan Girl, Fear The Wind and My Mate engaged at the final Ascot meeting of the season this Saturday.
