Talented filly Policiere brought up her third career win first-up at Belmont on Saturday when producing a tough performance in the Vale Neil Cayley Plate (1000m).

Backing up from a 400m trial win at Lark Hill on Monday, the Safeguard three-year-old started on the second line of betting at $4.40 before burning across from barrier eight to land outside of the leader and race-favourite, Prince Ragnar ($2.40).

Despite having to work hard through the early and middle stages of the race, the pint-sized chestnut idled past the market elect passing the 150m mark and pulled away over the concluding stages to defeat the fast-finishing Harmika ($5) by three-quarters-of-a-length.

Prince Ragnar finished a nose away in third place, with fellow Pearce-trained galloper Defending ($16) a further half-length away in fourth.

Policiere has now accumulated $279,100 in stake earnings and Westspeed bonuses from seven race starts to date, whilst also boasting residual value after finishing a narrow second to top juvenile Hoi An in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) in March.
