Lightly-raced four-year-old Dais broke her maiden status in nice fashion second-up at Northam on Wednesday when taking out the Mrs Mac’s Maiden (1100m).
The Sessions mare made a luckless race debut on October 6 when severely held up in the straight before getting clear and making a powerful late burst to finish a nose second, however, she made amends with a professional performance at her next outing.
Backed into $1.70 favouritism, Dais raced outside of the leader for rider Joseph Azzopardi before hitting the front on straightening and kicking clear to score by just over a length.
Fast-finishing debutant He’sgotwings ($4.60) hit the line strongly to run second, with Rommel’s War ($14) a further nose in third place.
Bred and owned by Oakland Park Stud, Dais’s race career was delayed due to repeated shinsoreness but the slow-maturing mare appears to have a bright future ahead.
