Chiclett landed her third win of her campaign at Mount Barker on Sunday when producing a decisive display in the TABtouch Mount Barker Cup (2000m).
The Tavistock mare’s two-and-a-quarter length victory capped off a wonderful week for Pearce Racing, with its eight runners over the space of five days netting five individual winners, a third and two fourth placings.
Heavily-supported into $2.40 favouritism, Chiclett was aided by a brilliant ride by the in-form Clint Johnston-Porter when landing one-out and one-back from barrier eight before looming up to the leading brigade on straightening and putting paid to rivals over the final furlong.
Scream In Blue ($20) finished in second place, with second-favourite Sowar ($3.30) a further length away back in third.
Chiclett has had a breakout campaign as a four-year-old this season and has now raced 23 times for six wins, five minor placings, 19 top-five finishes and $128,329 in stake earnings.
Meanwhile, Your Song three-year-old Risky Lyrics ($5) landed the Pearces’ and Johnston-Porter the first leg of a winning double on the day when scoring his first win in the Plantagenet Hotel Motel Maiden (1300m).
Despite veering inwards and bombing the start by a couple of lengths, the gelding tracked into the race nicely from towards the rear of the eight-horse field and let down with a powerful finish over the late stages to reel in his opposition.
He ran over the top of King Of The Jive ($9.50) by just under a length on the line, with Luvachat ($5.50) a further nose away in third place.
The Pearce stable will saddle-up last-start winner Roch Legacy and two-year-old stablemate Bird’s The Word at Wednesday’s Ascot meeting.
