The Ben Pearce team provided Poet’s Tale to race one on the York card on Friday, November 20 in a maiden plate over 1920 m with Jarrod Turner taking the ride, jumping from barrier three in a field of eight.

As the field dispatched it was Midnight Banquet the race leader Balnina had moved into second with Nishio prominent, Poet’s Tale had settled in fourth position after a tidy dispatch as the 8 contributors settled in the early stages of the event.

Around the back straight the upfront order was unchanged with Midnight Banquet still showing the way Balnina was second with Poet’s Tale now fractionally shading Nishio, with around eight or nine lengths covering the field of maidens from top to toe.

Coming to the turn it was a line of three with Midnight Banquet slowly falling out of the race Nishio was still there, as Turner asking his charge for an effort to be one of the widest runners coming to the turn, as they settled in for the run home.

Into the straight Poet’s Tale was responding to the call Gold Invader the race favorite was sneaking down the outside with Nishio, back towards the plastic coming underneath those runners with a close finish install… & as they hit the line it was the judge calling for a photo all round, with number 2 being semaphored,Poet’s Tale, bringing up the maiden win for connections with Gold Invader finishing strongly on the outside, out bobbing Nishio  for a bigger prize,  Little Miss Mac made a late insurgent towards the end of the run, but could only manage 4th.
