Co-trainers Daniel and Ben Pearce prepared a winning double at Northam on Thursday, whilst their other two runners on the day both finished in second place.
Blackfriars three-year-old More Fizz was having only her second career race when starting the $2.60 favourite in the UAA Maiden (1600m) and didn’t let punters down, working across her seven-horse field to sit behind the race-leader, Fuhrer ($5.50), in running before hitting the front inside the 200m mark and pulling away to score by three-quarters of a length.
Deputato ($4.20) finished a further three-quarters of a length away in third.
Ridden by champion jockey William Pike, More Fizz put the writing on the wall for her winning performance when finishing an eye-catching third to Hail Da Hinchi at her race debut over 1300m on October 6.
Fellow Pearce Racing-trained galloper Goldvein ($3.20) also broke his maiden status later in the program when defeating stablemate Baffling ($5) by a head in the Club Marine Maiden (1600m).
Also ridden by Pike, the Hala Bek gelding was given a sweet ride when settled three-back on the fence before navigating through a clear passage on straightening and hitting the line strongly.
Runner-up Baffling, a Blackfriars four-year-old, was having only her second career start and appears destined to launch her winning account in the near future.
Meanwhile, Discorsi mare Tap The Go Go ($4.40) capped off a good day for the Pearce brothers when finishing one-length second to Fingermark ($4.80) in the Country Wide Insurance Brokers Handicap (1400m) in the penultimate event of the day.
Pearce Racing have stable star Angelic Ruler engaged in Saturday’s $300,000 Group 2 Trisarc Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, before turning their attention to Sunday’s Bunbury meeting where they have Chapasco, Gunflint and Escalating engaged.
