Pearce Racing landed a winning double at Bunbury on Wednesday when stablemates Superlove and Chiclett each won their respective races.
Superlove, a lightly-raced Danehill Express four-year-old who was having her second start back from a spell, broke her maiden status in the Chaff City Maiden (1216m).
Ridden by Joseph Azzopardi, the mare was backed from $9 into $6 prior to the jump and sat in the breeze before hitting the front at the 200m mark and holding off the fast-finishing American Grin ($11) by a head.
Sichern ($10) finished a further three-quarter length away in third place .
Superlove has now recorded a win, a second, two thirds and a fourth from her five race starts to date and, after overcoming soundness issues in previous preparations, she appears to have a bright future ahead.
Meanwhile, progressive three-year-old Chiclett kicked off her WA Oaks campaign in the best way possible when scoring a first-up win in the Amelia Park Racing and Breeding Handicap (1420m).
Heavily backed from $3.40 to $2.50 favouritism in the final minutes, the Tavistock filly settled towards the rear of her 11-horse field before making a sustained run from the 800m mark underneath jockey Jade McNaught.
She rounded up her rivals within a matter of strides on straightening en route to defeating Born To Try ($3.70) by a head, with fellow Pearce Racing-trained galloper Friar’s Fantasia a further two-and-a-half lengths back in third.
The victory was Chiclett’s third win from nine career starts and she’s now set to line up in the $100,000 Listed 1000 Guineas (1800m) at Ascot on February 27 as she progresses towards the $250,000 Group 3 WA Oaks on March 27.
