Epaulette gelding Decoration relished a drop in grade when taking out the Fashions of the Field Sunday 25 October Handicap (1400m) at Northam on Sunday.
Starting the $3.90 second favourite at his second start back from a spell, the six-year-old had raced in Saturday company at his previous six race outings and proved his class when carrying the 60kg top weight to victory.
Rider Chris Parnham settled him in third position behind a hot tempo in running and he had to dig in deep on straightening but was able to fight off Don’t Trust Judas ($12) over the final stages to win by a head.
Race-favourite My Jimmy ($2.90) finished a further length away in third place.
Decoration put the writing on the wall for his winning performance with a fast-finishing effort over an unsuitable 1200m at Belmont on September 12.
The Oakland Park-bred gelding has now had 36 career starts for a highly consistent six wins, 13 minor placings and $253,715 in total earnings.
Meanwhile, the Pearce stable will saddle up Oly’s Choice and Defending at the final prime Belmont meeting of the year on Saturday.
