Sessions four-year-old Art Session landed his first win in almost 12 months at Northam on Thursday when taking out the TABtouch Try Bet Loop Today Handicap (1000m).
Starting a $9.50 chance following consecutive fourth placings at his first two runs back from a spell, the gelding was settled outside of the leader by jockey Tash Faithfull in running and travelled boldly into the straight.
Faithfull didn’t ask him for an effort until the 200m mark where he hit the lead and continued to respond to her hands-and-heels riding to hold off race-favourite Allentown ($3.20) by a three-quarter length on the line.
Desert Dancing ($4.40) finished a further neck away in third place.
Art Session has been a consistent type throughout his career and has now had 16 starts for three wins, six minor placings and $157,657 in stake and Westspeed Platinum earnings.
Meanwhile, Pearce Racing will saddle up A Summer Fling in Saturday’s $125,000 Listed WAROA Belmont Guineas (1600m) at Belmont, as well as God’s Grin, Sinful Living and Exceltrain in support races on the eight-event card.
