Three-year-old filly Pariah’s Thanks opened her winning account at Bunbury’s Australia Day meeting on Monday with a strong finishing burst in the Nelson Irrigation Australia Maiden (1000m).

Starting a $12 outsider second-up from a spell, the daughter of Pariah jumped from barrier six and settled at the rear of the seven-horse field before producing a sharp last-to-first victory.

Jockey Holly Watson extricated her to the middle of the track on straightening and she swept past her rivals to hit the front passing the 100m mark and then pulled away late to defeat race-favourite Maythisbetheone ($2.70) by a length-and-a-quarter.

Fellow Pearce-trained three-year-old’s Deepest Desire ($2.70) and Hello Veneta ($12) ran third and fourth respectively.

Pariah’s Thanks put the writing on the wall for her first career win with an encouraging fourth placing at her race return at Albany on January 4 when making late ground on a day that was difficult to do so.

Purchased by Pearce Racing for only $6,000 at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Winter Yearling Sale, the filly has now picked up $20,815 from her first three race starts.

The Pearce stable has Eternal Romance and Super Romani engaged to race at Ascot on Wednesday.
