Lightly-raced filly Alebrije upstaged her more fancied stablemate when taking out the Own The Dream 2026 Maiden (1100m) at Bunbury on Thursday.
Starting a $16 outsider while her stablemate, White Hot ($3.30), jumped the second market elect, the Bivouac three-year-old sprung the gates and was given a well-rated ride by apprentice Natika Riordan.
She found the lead during the early stages of the race before being headed by rivals who raced as far as four-wide to her outside but Riordan didn’t panic and allowed the filly to maintain her rhythm before railing well and giving a nice kick on straightening.
Alebrije continued to find over the late stages to defeat race-favourite Belaura Star ($2.60) by more than a length, with White Hot a further length away in third place.
Bred and raced by New South Wales’ Pepper Tree Farm, Alebrije has now had two career starts for one win.
Meanwhile, stablemate God’s Grin also ran third later on the Bunbury program.
Pearce Racing will saddle up Ginger Baker in Saturday’s $300,000 Group 3 Ted Van Heemst Stakes (2100m) at Ascot, as well as stablemates Graceful Lass, Surf Patrol and Defending in support races on the 10-event card.
Queen Of Hawks will also race at Narrogin on Saturday, while Kidding Me, Spirt Of Luna and Eternal Romance are engaged at Sunday’s Pinjarra meeting.
