Shamus Award gelding Famous Dain landed the fourth win of his preparation when taking out the Quayclean Handicap (1600m) at Belmont on Saturday.
Starting the $3.50 favourite with William Pike aboard, the rising five-year-old enjoyed a gun run leaders-back from barrier one and took full advantage of an inside opening when race leader Great Fortune ($4.60) had a tendency to lay out abruptly on straightening.
He hit the front passing the 175m mark and bounded away over the final stages to defeat Bellini Miss ($26) by one-and-a-quarter lengths in an authoritative performance.
Cherry Can Run ($21) finished a further three-quarter length away in third place.
Bred and part-owned by Oakland Park Stud, Famous Dain has been a model of consistency throughout his 10-start autumn and winter campaign and has now had 21 career starts for five wins, eight minor placings and $188,092 in total earnings.
Saturday’s win was Pearce Racing’s 78th for the 2024/25 season with only five days remaining.
The stable will be represented by Galaxy Affair, Manavendra and Decoration at Sunday’s Kalgoorlie meeting before the final two meetings of the season are run at Pinjarra and the Bunbury Sand Fibre on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
